The Snurfs Up was the first board Offshore made, and it is still one of the shapes we reach for most. The wide nose keeps you moving easily through deep snow. The pulled-in tail makes it quick from edge to edge, while the pin tail lets you drift and release when you want to, then settle back onto an edge when you don't.

The Intention

This is where Offshore started. Our first shape. We designed the Snurfs Up to be the board we could ride every day of the season, whatever the mountain handed us. A surfboard's outline, a powder board's float and an all-mountain board's manners. Easy to understand. Easy to trust. Much more versatile than it looks.

How It Rides

The wide nose and early rise carry you easily through deep snow. The pulled-in tail keeps the back foot quick, while the pin tail releases cleanly through a turn and makes changing direction feel natural. On firmer snow it settles onto an edge and feels far more conventional than the outline suggests. Relaxed when you want it to be. Composed when you ask more of it. It follows the mountain rather than fighting it.

The Rider

For the rider who wants one board to cover most of the season. Someone who likes a surf-inspired feel but still wants a board that is predictable, intuitive and easy to live with across changing conditions. Intermediate through expert.

Camber: Pow Camber

Camber under the feet, early rise nose, a touch of rocker in the tail. The contact point sits closer to the back foot, so the nose has room to rise and the tail can release. Camber between the feet is non-negotiable on Offshore boards, it’s the engine of the turn. The rockered nose and tail add surf and lift, effortless float on the deepest days. Pow Camber is made for powder and surfy terrain.

Shape: Surfy All-Mountain

Drawn from a surfboard. The nose runs 20 mm wider than the tail, so the front stays up when the snow is deep. The pulled-in tail keeps the back foot agile, and the pin tail adds controlled drift and release through every turn. The stance sits centred on the effective edge, so it stays quick edge to edge on firm snow. A powder outline with all-mountain manners.

Same shape, three layups. The flex does not change what the shape was intended for. Only how hard you have to ask. It is the mood. The feel. There is no right or wrong. Just a preference we like to offer, made possible by building every board to order.

Playful & forgiving

Easy to bend, easy to forgive. Presses and butters come cheap. It soaks up chatter and is more forgiving when a landing goes wrong. Good in tight trees, on slow days, and if you prefer a softer feel.

Regular · 6

Happy medium

The one most people ride. It holds an edge when you lean on it and lets go when you want to play. Stable enough for speed, loose enough for fun. If you are not sure which to pick, this is the answer. It is how we intended our boards to feel, and how we ride them.

Stiff · 8

Hard charging

Built for those who prefer a firmer flex. It holds a line through chop and stays calm as the speed climbs. It carves hard and rewards a strong back leg. You get back exactly what you put in. Not designed to be easy to ride. Designed to be ridden.

Polyurethane Sidewalls

We pour our sidewalls instead of gluing them in. Liquid polyurethane runs into a channel cut along the core, then cures into one seamless piece that damps chatter and holds its flex.

One of the best boards I’ve ever ridden.

So far, I have ridden this board 5 days total, but in very different conditions. The most impressive feature of this board is its versatility, and ability to adapt to any condition.

Had this in over 3 feet of heavy, dense powder. This board floated and maneuvered through trees, fresh tracks, and tracked out snow with such ease. No matter how dense or deep, it always stayed above the snow and got me out of tight situations when I needed it to move quickly. It also plowed through heavier stashes like a missile cutting through a cloud. It was effortless, fun, and dynamic.

When on groomers, it was also versatile and damp. Super quick turner that can also straight line when needed. It manages icy and bumpy conditions with ease, and that late afternoon crud that every resort has on weekends, was no problem for it. It managed it like a champ.

The base is incredibly fast, and the edges hold like they should. The spring out of the carve is easily available and extremely satisfying. It can do a slalom course with ease. Yet, this board had my back when I got out of my game and needed to skid a turn to avoid hitting something or someone, so it can be aggressive when needed as it can also be forgiving when a rider is not at its best.

Overall, it’s a 10/10 and I cannot wait to try different boards from Offshore in the future. If you are thinking about buying one. Just DO IT. This is a great one board quiver for the directional freerider that lives between pow and resort days.

100/100. Best board money can buy. I’ve ridden all over the world and tried out many boards over the past two decades of shredding. My experience in Japan swapping out deck after deck with Josh, Yama, and Sonny was a very memorable experience.

The design and craftsmanship is unmatched in the industry. I’m a washed up athlete weighing 99 kilos on a good day. These boards are a throwback to strong, durable, and fast full camber boards. It’s the way it should be. Lots of pop, lots of speed with the race base, beefy sidewalls and resistant top sheet. I ride the Snurfs Up and I love this design for all sorts of riding. The pintail shape in the tail is great for ripping around and commanding control while the wider nose helps float over anything, chunder, bumps, bamboo, but hopefully just POWW pillows. Living in the US and riding Cascade Region (Mt Baker, Mt Hood, Mt Bachelor) and this old lady loves being amongst the volcanoes. She was born down the road from Mt Yotei and is due for a rip.

Don’t sleep on these boards! A true homage to snowboard design and its rich history. The homies at the shop are great too, like family 🙂

Demo’d this board earlier this year, I don’t own it. But it’s been haunting me.

I mostly rode on groomers, with some powder, but it had such an easy surfy feeling. Really easy to power out of turns off the back foot, tail never broke out unintentionally. I’m not sure I’d give it a 7 flex rating, maybe 6, which actually felt perfect.

I ended up buying a Ride Shadowban afterwards and it paled in comparison. Sold it shortly afterwards.

The Snurfs Up
What is the Snurfs Up best at?

One board for the whole mountain. Surfy float in powder, an agile back foot in the trees, and real edge hold on groomers. If you want a powder shape to ride every day, this is the one.

Is it good for daily resort riding?

Yes. The wide nose floats the deep days and the pulled-in pin tail keeps it lively on hardpack, so it never feels like a one-trick powder board.

How is it different from the Cabin Fever?

The Snurfs Up is looser and surfier. The Cabin Fever is more locked-in and directional, built for charging and long carves.

How do I choose my Snurfs Up size?

Your weight sets the length, your boots set the width. The shows three sizes: nimble, true to size, and more float. A good starting point is the same length as your normal all-mountain board, then size up for deeper days.

Do I need a wide board?

It comes down to your boot size and the waist width of the size you want, not the length on its own. As a rule, boots around US 11 or bigger usually want a W, which runs 10 mm wider at the waist to keep your toes and heels off the snow. If you ride a shorter length but have big boots, you may still need a wide. The works it out from your boot size.

Is my board waxed and tuned, ready to ride?

Yes. Every board is hand waxed several times and tuned to perfection. It is ready to ride the moment it leaves the factory. We do not over-detune our boards, so we suggest detuning the tip and tail to your own preference.

Ordering & Shipping
How long does a board take?

Lead time is around six weeks from order, plus about two weeks for delivery if you are overseas. We make only a very limited number each year and sell out each season, so ordering early secures your board for the coming winter. There is no stock and no production line.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes. Worldwide shipping is available. Wherever you are, we can get your board to you.

Can you deliver to my hotel in Japan?

Yes. We ship anywhere in Japan, including to your hotel or accommodation. Send us the details of where you are staying and we will have your board waiting for your arrival.

Do you offer tax free?

No. But if you ship outside Japan, your purchase is exempt from the 10% Japan VAT.

Can I pick up my board from the factory?

Yes. You are welcome to collect your board from our factory in Niseko. Just let us know when you will collect and we will have your board ready for you.

Where are Offshore Snow Shapes boards made?

By hand at our factory in Niseko, Japan. Every board is hand-crafted, made to order in small numbers. Learn more about our factory in Niseko.

Can I visit the factory?

Yes. Outside winter we are open 9am to 5pm, and through winter 8am to 8pm. Come and see how the boards are made, pick up your new board, or demo one of our shapes.

Can I demo a board before I buy?

Yes. Demo boards are available at the factory for around 5,000 yen a day, and you can also demo at Rhythm in Hirafu. It is the best way to feel a shape before you order.

Can I watch my board being made?

In winter you are welcome to drop by. Walk-ins are fine and we are happy to show you around the workshop while boards are in build. Come and see how they are made.

Do you offer a free tune?

Yes. As an Offshore owner, your board includes one complimentary tune each year at our Niseko Kōjō.

We’ll confirm the board against its serial number or original purchase details when you bring it in. Additional tuning, waxing and repair work is available at our regular service rates.

Do you have a showroom?

Yes. We have a small showroom at the factory where we sell limited-edition apparel and OFSR merchandise.

Each season brings a new collection of Offshore graphics, designed by founder and designer Josh Monin in Niseko. New season, new art. The steady rhythm the brand was built on.

Drawing came before board building. Josh was designing long before the first Offshore was pressed, and the topsheet has always been treated as a small canvas. Composition, colour, weight and balance. The same attention given to the shape beneath it.

A Craft graphic belongs to its season. Years from now, someone will spot one on a wall and know the winter it came from.

Information

Urushi is one of Japan’s oldest decorative traditions, with a history stretching back thousands of years.

For Offshore, the process begins with original artwork created by hand using genuine urushi lacquer. The finished piece is then photographed and digitised, translating its depth, movement and surface into a graphic that can be reproduced on a rideable snowboard.

The result is not a lacquered snowboard. It is a printed interpretation of the original work, made to be ridden.

A new artwork is created for the series each season.

Information

SR stands for Special Release.

It is where Offshore can follow an idea without needing it to become part of the permanent collection. Some releases begin with Josh in the Niseko studio. Others begin with an artist, a collaborator or something we simply want to make once.

Numbers stay small. Some graphics appear across a short run. Others exist on a single board.

What they share is simple: once an SR is gone, it does not return.

Custom starts with your artwork.

It might be a finished design, something still taking shape, or files that need a little work before they are ready for a snowboard.

Send them through and we’ll take it from there. We refine the layout, balance colours and prepare the artwork for the proportions and production requirements of your chosen shape.

Before anything enters the Kōjō, you receive a final digital proof to approve.

Once you are happy, the artwork is prepared for sublimation and your board enters production.

From first file to final board, we stay with the details.

  3. 03 / Refine

    We prepare the design for the topsheet, refining layout, colour and details where needed.

  4. 04 / Approve

    You receive a final digital proof. Nothing enters production until you are happy with it.

  5. 05 / Build

    Once approved, your chosen shape enters the build schedule at the Niseko Kōjō.

  6. 06 / Finish

    Your artwork is sublimated into the topsheet, then the board is pressed, tuned and finished by hand.

Every Custom graphic is sublimated into the topsheet.

The process reproduces colour and fine detail beautifully, but not every material or effect translates. Metallic inks, screen-printed effects, resin tints and finishes that rely on reflective or physical materials cannot be reproduced through sublimation.

Colours can also appear slightly different on a snowboard topsheet than they do on a screen.

We review the artwork with you and flag anything that needs adjusting before you approve the final design.

Information

Studio+ begins before there is an artwork.

Bring an idea, a reference, a colour, a photograph, a feeling or simply a place to start. Josh works with you directly to find the visual direction and develop it into something that belongs on your board.

Years spent creating Offshore graphics have taught him when to add something, when to take something away and when a design has found its balance.

The process moves through conversation, references, sketches and revisions. You see the work develop and have the opportunity to shape the direction along the way.

Once the final artwork is approved, your chosen shape enters the Kōjō and is hand-crafted in Niseko.
