OFSR/Warranty

Niseko, Japan

Warranty.

Two years. Defects in materials or workmanship.
If we got it wrong, we fix it.

01 / The short version

Two years. Defects. Fixed.

Every board is made by hand, one at a time, in Niseko. We know each one by its serial number. We know who ordered it and when.

So if something goes wrong with a board we built, we want to hear about it.

Two years from the day your board reaches you. Defects in materials or workmanship. Original owner. Keep your receipt.

Send it to us and we will look at it properly. If we got it wrong, we fix it or we replace it.

Riding a board into a rock is not a defect. You probably knew that already.

02 / Limited warranty

Offshore Snow Shapes Limited Warranty.

Offshore Snow Shapes warrants all products sold by Offshore Snow Shapes and by authorised Offshore Snow Shapes dealers to be free of defects in material or workmanship for a period of two (2) years, unless otherwise specified on the product.

We build to order, and some people order a year ahead. So the two years do not start when you pay. If you bought from us directly, they start the day the board is delivered or collected. If you bought from a shop, they start on the date of your retail purchase.

If a product is found to be defective by Offshore Snow Shapes, our responsibility is limited to repair or replacement of that product. We are not responsible for any other costs, losses or damages resulting from the defect or from being without the board.

03 / What is covered

Faults that come from how the board was made.

Under normal riding, that means:

  • Delamination of the base, top sheet, sidewall or tip and tail protection
  • Structural cracking through the base, top sheet, core, edges or sidewalls that is not the result of impact
  • Edge separation or edge failure that is not the result of impact
  • Inserts that spin, strip or crack, where the bindings were mounted correctly
  • Water getting into the core through a build fault
  • Any other clear failure of the materials or the workmanship

If you are not sure which of these you have, send us photos. We will tell you.

04 / What is not covered

The mountain, and everything on it.

  • Damage from rocks, rails, stumps, ice, or anything else you hit
  • Any other impact damage, however it happened
  • Misuse, abuse or neglect
  • Damage from bindings mounted or adjusted incorrectly
  • Damage caused by a chairlift, a lift queue, or transport
  • Damage from solvents, adhesives or thread lock
  • Base burn, dry base or edge rust from a board that was stored wet or ridden with no wax
  • Storage damage, including boards left in heat, in damp, or in direct sun
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Cosmetic marks: scratches, base scuffs, small dents, faded graphics
  • Boards used for rental, demo, hire or commercial instruction
  • Second-hand boards, or boards bought from anyone other than us or an authorised dealer
  • Any claim for consequential or incidental loss

05 / Handmade

Handmade means small differences.

Our boards are pressed, cut, sanded and tuned by hand. Our graphics are sublimation printed, which fuses the ink into the top sheet.

So small variations happen. Slight differences in colour against what you saw on a screen. Small marks in the sublimation. Minor differences in shape or finish between two boards of the same model. Wood grain that is not identical from one core to the next.

These are the fingerprints of a board made by a person and not a machine. They are not defects and they are not covered.

If a variation is bad enough that we would not have shipped it, tell us. We will make it right.

06 / Care

Storing and looking after your board.

A warranty does not replace care, and a well-kept board will outlive its warranty by years.

Dry the board after every day. Store it dry, out of direct sun, and away from heat. Keep wax on the base and keep the edges free of rust. Mount your bindings to the correct torque and check the screws through the season.

Damage caused by not doing these things is not a defect.

07 / How to claim

Come straight to us.

You do not need to go back to the shop first.

  1. Email us at info@offshoresnowshapes.com. Tell us what happened and send clear photos of the fault and of the whole board.
  2. Include your serial number if you can find it, and your original receipt or invoice. If you bought the board from a shop, tell us which one and send their receipt.
  3. Wait for us to authorise the return. Do not ship a board back before we ask you to. Boards that arrive without authorisation may be returned to you.
  4. Send the board freight prepaid and insured, with bindings removed, to the address we give you.
  5. We assess it and tell you what we found.

Often the photos are enough and the board never has to leave you. We would rather look at pictures for a week than have you pay freight to Japan for something we could have told you from your kitchen table.

We built your board, so we are the ones who can tell you what went wrong with it. Going through a shop only adds a step. If you bought from a shop, we will let them know a claim has come in, so you do not have to.

If you bought from a shop close to us and it is easier to drop the board in there, do that and let us know. We will collect it.

We answer warranty email within three working days. In the middle of winter it may take a little longer, because we are in the factory.

08 / Shipping and costs

Getting it to us.

You cover the cost of getting the board to us, plus insurance and any customs charges on the way in. We cannot take responsibility for a board while it is with a courier, so use a tracked service.

If the claim is approved, we cover standard freight for sending the repaired or replacement board back to you.

Import duties and taxes charged by your own country are not part of the warranty, in either direction. Those are yours, as they were when the board first shipped.

If the claim is not approved, we will tell you what it would cost to repair the board anyway, and we will not touch it until you say yes. Return freight in that case is yours.

09 / Repairs and replacements

Repair where a repair is right.

We repair where a repair is right, and replace where it is not. Which one it is, is our call.

A repaired or replaced board carries the remainder of the original two years. It does not start again.

Replacement boards depend on what we can build. Models, sizes and graphics change from season to season and we run no stock. If your exact board is no longer made, we will replace it with the closest board we have, matched on size, shape and value. We will talk to you before we do it.

On limited runs, iD boards and one-off custom graphics, we will get as close to the original as we can, but a graphic, a colour or a finish cannot always be made twice. We will show you what we can do before we build it.

Repairs are done between builds, so the time depends on the season. From December to March we are pressing customer orders and repairs take longer. We will give you a timeframe once we have the board in our hands.

10 / Outside the warranty

Not every damaged board is finished.

If your two years are up, or the damage was never a defect in the first place, send us photos anyway. If it can be repaired we will tell you what is involved and what it costs. Sometimes the answer is a base weld and a re-tune. Sometimes the answer is that the board has had a good life.

We would rather keep a board on the mountain than watch it go in a skip. That is most of the reason we build them the way we do.

11 / What voids it

What voids the warranty.

Any modification, alteration or repair to the board that we have not agreed to in writing. That includes shortening, re-drilling, re-basing, hot-boxing beyond normal wax temperatures, and repairs done by a shop without our sign-off.

Removing or defacing the serial number also ends the warranty, because without it we cannot tell whose board it is or when it was built.

12 / Custom and iD

Custom and iD boards.

Custom boards are covered by exactly the same two-year warranty as every other board we build.

What is not covered is a change of mind about the artwork. Custom graphics are signed off before we press. If you would like a digital proof to approve first, ask for one at checkout.

13 / Urushi Art

Urushi Art.

Urushi Art pieces are artworks. They are not snowboards and they are not built to be ridden, so this warranty does not apply to them.

They are still made by us, and we still stand behind them. If a piece arrives damaged, or something goes wrong with the lacquer or the mounting, talk to us and we will sort it out.

If you ride one, you are on your own. We would be quietly impressed, but you are on your own.

14 / Who it covers

The original purchaser only.

It is not transferable. If you sell the board on, the warranty does not go with it.

The warranty applies to boards bought from Offshore Snow Shapes directly or from an authorised Offshore Snow Shapes dealer. Boards bought second-hand, or from an online marketplace or an unauthorised reseller, are not covered.

There is nothing to register. Every board we build carries a serial number and we keep the record of it here. Your receipt and that number are all we need.

15 / Your rights

Your rights under local law.

This warranty is in addition to any rights you have under the consumer law of your own country, and it does not take those rights away.

In the European Union and the United Kingdom, your statutory rights against the seller apply alongside this warranty.

Some countries do not allow limits on how long an implied warranty lasts, or on the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages. Where that is the case, the limits above may not apply to you.

Except where local law says otherwise, this written warranty is the only warranty we give. Nothing said to you verbally, by us or by a dealer, adds to it.

16 / Talk to us

We would rather fix a problem than argue about one.
